Contex Scanners a Must for Quality Assurance in Pharmaceutical Packaging

In the pharmaceutical industry, accuracy of information is critical, especially when it comes to the packaging, labels, and leaflets of medication. Because a large source of product recalls is due to copy-related errors in the packaging materials, major brands like Procter & Gamble and Pfizer are relying on an innovative quality assurance system from Global Vision that uses Contex wide format scanners. The ScanTVS™ software is used to inspect proofs, labels, cartons, inserts, and nested press sheets.

Contex scanners are a critical component to Global Vision’s quality assurance system. The scanners ensure the accurate representation of users’ large, hard copy documents and packaging components. ScanTVS compares scanned images against PDF proofs, and can pick up differences like 50 mg that may have been inadvertently changed to 5 mg.

Confirm Accuracy Before Going to Press

“The quality and ease of use make the Contex scanners a perfect fit for our customers that need to be sure that there are no deviations between their PDFs and their hard copies,” comments Reuben Malz, President, Global Vision.

Global Vision’s ScanTVS™, with Contex wide format scanners, solve the problem that stems from multilayer processes in the packaging process. When transferring documents from one department to another – for the production of a leaflet, for example – the risk of mistakes increases as multiple hands have input into product materials.

The combined proofing system provides quality assurance that content is kept accurate within clients’ processes, from the marketing, legal, regulatory departments to the supplier. The solution inspects hard copy proofs for print defects, missing or broken elements, and color differences.

The Quality Assurance Process

The process is simple: users scan a printer’s hard copy with the Contex wide format scanner, and the software compares the scanned image with the PDF to ensure that there are no deviations.

“We tried other scanners and found that the Contex scanners produce the most accurate representation. The quality of the images is consistent, which is important when customers validate our system,” notes Malz.

WYNIT Shares Strategies for Success with Contex/HP Bundle

Contex attributes its success to more than innovative wide format scanning solutions. It relies on key partnerships with companies such as national distributor WYNIT. In 2014, WYNIT achieved record sales of Contex solutions, following the launch of the Contex MFP and HP bundle earlier in the year. In this Q&A, Bill Bowles, HP Business Manager & Sales Champion at WYNIT, shares the strategies to their success.

Featured here is the Contex 36-inch wide format scanner with the HP Designjet T790.

What do you attribute to your success of selling the Contex scanning solutions?

We have a high level of expertise at WYNIT, and we set out to thoroughly understand customers’ wants and needs. Because we’re smaller and nimbler than our competitors, we dig a little deeper. We provide solutions that precisely meet the needs of our resellers’ customers, and the Contex MFP and HP is well-suited for various applications.

When do you recommend the Contex bundle solutions versus an integrated (all-in-one) solution?

There are several factors that we consider before we recommend any scanning and print solution. These include the scan length and width, as well as speed, productivity, and flexibility. Integrated scan and print solutions only go up to 36-inches. It’s also limited with one footprint, one flavor. With a bundled solution, we can go to 44-inches and more.

Productivity is important to our customers. With the Contex/HP bundle, users can scan and print at the same time, which speeds up the workflow. Simultaneous multi-functioning isn’t possible with an integrated system. With the Contex/HP bundle, customers can recreate, copy, and do large batch scanning at the same time. The feedback that we get from customers is positive.

What kind of market spaces to you see for Contex scanning solutions?

There are multiple platforms for the Contex MFP and HP bundle. In the oil and gas markets, they deal with long documents to scan and print. For these types of applications, we recommend the Contex/HP bundle. The AEC community is also a natural fit, especially for archiving.

What is the most popular bundle for your customers?

We recommend the Contex SD 3615 or IQ 4420 scanner with the HP T795 or Z5400, depending on the wants and needs of the end users. We can use any combination of the scanner and printer.

Typically, for the CAD/architects, we recommend the 24- or 36-inch wide format scanning bundle. In the GIS and mapping market, the 44-inch solution is ideal.

Holloman Boosts Productivity by 75% with a Contex Scanner

Speed is important to the engineers at the Holloman Air Force Base…literally. When a new prototype is ready to be tested on the high-speed test track, Holloman engineers want their 3D drawings and wide format documents scanned fast. When marked-up hard copy drawings took too long to become digitally available, Holloman staffers invested in a Contex HD Ultra wide format scanner, and now boast 75% improvement in productivity.

Contex Scanner Fulfills Holloman’s Need for Speed

Regarded as the fastest place on Earth, Holloman’s 10-mile long, precision-aligned test track is where scientists and engineers put their newest prototypes to the test. Throughout the development of these prototypes, 3D models, drawings and designs are exchanged, along with subsequent revisions, feedback, and approvals. To ensure the precise representation of the hard copy drawings, Holloman relies on the Contex HD Ultra 4250i wide format scanner.

Holloman’s usage of the Contex scanner can range from 3 drawings to over 100 scans a day. As hard copy drawings are marked-up for design changes or to give sign-off, the documents are scanned with the HD Ultra. “The scanner’s improved speed and efficiency allows us more time to work on other projects. It speeds up whole process all together,” notes Ray Miller, supervisor for Test Group Test Management Drafting (TGTMP).

Contex Scanners Built for Productivity

The Contex HD Ultra wide format scanning solution delivers unprecedented speed, color accuracy, and imaging processing. Users can scan at 8-inches per second in color, or 642 ISO A0 documents per hour while achieving the highest quality images.

“The engineers at the test squadron are really unsung heroes; they design parts for test vehicles that save so many lives. They deserve a fast, reliable and accurate scanner that will allow them to spend more time on tasks that have a higher priority,” comments Sean Eikenbery, president, PeopleDocs LLC, a document imaging and database application developer and technology integrator.

The HD Ultra scanner is equipped with CCD imaging, archiving, and productivity-boosting features. This ensures best-in-class image quality, with 1200 optical resolution, and the fastest and most efficient way to scan, copy, file, and archive wide format images, drawings, documents and records.

Having one of the market’s fastest wide format scanners for the world’s fastest test track, the HD Ultra is proving to be best suited for Holloman’s requirements for today and for years to come.
